Rice takes over as the new #1 team in the HNIB News Vermont D1 Top 5 after beating No. 3 Essex at home, 3-1. That win was the fourth in a row for the top seed. Essex drops two slots because of that loss to Rice, its first of the year.

Rice’s only loss so far came at the hands of No. 2 BFA St. Albans. BFA has three wins and two shutouts, including a convincing 8-0 drubbing of Champlain Valley Union.

No. 4 Spaulding stays put and No. 5 Stowe moves into the Top 5 after its 2-2 start. It’s coming off a 6-2 win over Brookline (MA).
