Vermont Division 1 hockey is tough at the top. You’ve got three teams that have knocked off each other. Essex beat Spaulding. Spaulding beat Rice. Rice beat Essex.

What to do?

We’ve decided to go with the current hot hand – and that would be Spaulding. On Saturday they beat Rice, 4-2, at home. That moved them up from No. 3 to No. 1 The team has won five consecutive games.

Essex stayed put at #2. It had a nice win against Stowe, 5-3, on Saturday, and is on a four-game win streak.

Rice is the only one in the top three to have more than one loss. It had won six in a row before that defeat to Spaulding.

BFA/St. Albans and Middlebury Union hold serve at #4 and #5, respectively. BFA/St. Albans rebounded from a tough, 2-0 loss to Essex with a 9-1 drubbing of South Burlington. Middlebury Union, meanwhile, has had back-to-back 3-1 victories – over Stowe and Colchester.
