We didn’t see many compelling reasons to change anything in Division 1 this week.

No. 1 Essex held serve at the top after solid victories over Spaulding (5-0) and Rice (3-2). The Hornets remain unbeaten in 2020 with their last setback coming Dec. 28 to Rice. The win streak has now hit double digits at 10.

Speaking of winning streaks, No. 2 BFA/St. Albans hit consecutive win No. 7 this week. That came in a 5-4 victory over Stowe, which followed a 3-0 blanking of Colchester.

No. 3 Rice beat Middlebury Union, 3-0, before that loss to Essex and remains in place.

No. 4 Middlebury only played Rice this week and we don’t feel a need to drop them despite the loss.

No. 5 Stowe split last week, beating Champlain Valley Union, 3-1, and battling BFA before falling to the Bobwhites, 5-4.
