As the regular season winds down with its final handful of games, No. 1 Essex strengthened its grip on the top spot with a three-win week.

The defending State Champion Hornets buzzed past Champlain Valley Union, 4-1; Rutland, 6-3; and South Burlington, 4-1. They wrap up the season on the road, with visits to South Burlington on Monday and Middlebury on Wednesday.

No. 2 BFA/St. Albans collected five of six available points against the teams directly behind it in the poll. The Bobwhites sandwiched wins against South Burlington (5-1) and Stowe (4-2) around a 1-1 tie with Middlebury. They wrap up the regular season Wednesday against Spaulding.

No. 3 Stowe had a split week, knocking off Rice before falling to BFA. The Raiders now turn their attention to post-season preparation.

No. 4 Middlebury picked up a well-earned point in that 1-1 tie with BFA/St. Albans. The Tigers close out the regular season with home dates against Rice on Monday and Essex on Wednesday.

It was a rugged week for No. 5 South Burlington, which absorbed those consecutive losses against BFA and Essex. The Wolves finish the regular season with a rematch against Essex Monday and against CVU on Wednesday.
