Defending champion No. 1 Essex broke fast and has yet to be threatened, outscoring four opponents by a 20-4 margin.

No. 2 BFA/St. Albans maintains its position, losing only to Canton, NY, 4-1, over the holidays. The Bobwhites are unbeaten in state play.

Unranked in the pre-season, No. 3 Stowe rebounded nicely from a lopsided season-opening loss to Essex with a 5-0-1 stretch behind a potent offense.

No. 4 Rice means business and is playing a solid brand of hockey under its new staff. That was apparent in a well-contested 4-2 loss to BFA on Saturday.

After rattling off five wins to start the season, No. 5 Middlebury Union has come back to earth in one-goal losses to Stowe and Rice.
