If defense is your thing, then you would’ve relished Saturday’s scoreless skate between No. 1 Essex and No. 2 BFA/St. Alban’s in which the teams combined for 32 total shots on net. Sam Foster had 13 saves for Essex, which secured 3-of-4 points from BFA this season. Tyler Laroche turned back 19 shots for the Bobwhites.

Essex defeated Rice last week as well. The Hornets kicked off a three-game week Monday at Champlain Valley Union, followed by a Wednesday visit to Rutland and Saturday home date with South Burlington.

BFA/St. Albans is at home this week, facing Middlebury Thursday and Stowe on Saturday.

No. 3 Stowe and No. 4 Middlebury split a weekend home-and-home set with Middlebury prevailing Friday, 3-1, and Stowe bouncing back for the 4-2 win on Saturday.

Stowe is on the road this week with trips to Rice on Wednesday and BFA on Saturday.

The same holds true for Middlebury, which travels to South Burlington Wednesday and BFA on Thursday.

No. 5 South Burlington handled Spaulding in its only game of the week, 6-1. They take on Middlebury at home Wednesday, then head to Essex Saturday.
