It’s been a season of change at the top for Division 1 in the Green Mountain State.

Last week we bumped now No. 4 Spaulding all the way to the top and it responded by losing to BFA/St. Albans, 6-0, and tying Champlain Valley Union, 1-1.

No. 1 Essex moves into the lead position. It beat Middlebury, 1-0, and Colchester, 4-0, and hasn’t lost since Dec. 28. That’s a seven-game win streak, and it’s 6-0-1 in that span.

No. 2 Rice took care of business with two victories and moves up a notch. It beat South Burlington, 3-2, and U-32 of Division 2, 9-1. That allowed Rice to get back on track after that loss to Spaulding.

No. 3 BFA/St. Albans is also hot. It moves up after that Spaulding win, which followed victories over Rutland, 9-2, and South Burlington, 9-1.

No. 5 Middlebury Union keeps its spot after a 2-1 win over South Burlington. Middlebury has now won three out of four, its only loss a 1-0 decision to Essex.
