Any lingering doubt as to which team is likely to be seeded first in the upcoming State Tournament was likely put to rest Saturday.
No. 1 BFA-St. Albans remained unbeaten and completed a season series sweep of Essex, 5-2, quieting the Hornets’ sizzling offense. The Bobwhites bested Spaulding earlier in the week, 6-0. Burr & Burton (Wednesday) and Spaulding (Saturday) provide this week’s opposition.
It was a split week for No. 2 Essex, which stopped U-32 prior to the loss to BFA. The task now is to secure a Top 4 seed for the post-season. Essex visits Spaulding Wednesday and is at home against South Burlington Saturday.
No. 3 Stowe vaults over Spaulding by virtue of its OT win against the Crimson Tide earlier in the week. Stowe also upended South Burlington. The Raiders are a busy bunch this week with games Monday (vs. CVU), Wednesday (at U-32) and Saturday (at Rutland).
No. 4 Spaulding dropped that OT decision to Stowe then had its scheduled game against Rice cancelled. The Tide hosts South Burlington Monday and heads to Essex on Wednesday.
No. 5 Burr & Burton continued to impress with wins against Rice and CVU. The Bulldogs spend this week on the road, visiting U-32 Monday and Middlebury Friday.
