The top spot in the HNIB poll will be up for grabs tonight when No. 1 Essex and No. 2 BFA/St. Albans square off in the make-up of a game snowed out several weeks ago.

Essex returned from a week off Saturday night and suffered its first in-state loss of the season at the hands of Stowe, 4-2. The defending State Champs follow up tonight’s game with Wednesday’s visit to Champlain Valley and Saturday’s date with Spaulding.

BFA/St. Albans capped a three-win week with a 4-0 whitewash of CVU on Saturday. The Bobwhites also silenced Stowe on Monday, 1-0, and turned back Rutland on Wednesday, 6-3. Games against South Burlington (Wednesday) and Rice (Saturday) close out this week’s slate.

No. 3 Stowe climbs two spots on the strength of its upset of Essex and strong effort vs. BFA. The Raiders also rocked Spaulding earlier in the week, 7-1. They take on Rutland at home Wednesday and visit Champlain Valley Saturday.

No. 4 Middlebury returned from a week off and settled for a 1-1 tie with Spaulding on Saturday. The Tigers match up with Rice on Wednesday and Rutland on Friday this week.

New No. 5 South Burlington supplants Rice in the poll after Wednesday’s 4-2 win against the Green Knights. South had a four-game winning streak snapped by Rutland Saturday and resumes action Wednesday against BFA/St. Alban’s.
