There has been a switch at the top of the Rhode Island boys hockey poll this week. Bishop Hendricken opens the first regular season HNIB News Top 10 on top. The Hawks, a perfect 7-0-0 to start the season, were No. 2 in the preseason poll.

Coming in at No. 2 is the former No. 1 – LaSalle Academy. It will be facing Hendricken Jan. 4 for the first time. LaSalle’s only loss came to Ridgefield, Conn., currently the top team in that state.

Mount St. Charles has started strong but couldn’t get the job done against the top two. Hendricken and LaSalle made it two losses in a row for the Mounties.

Smithfield put up 15 goals in its two wins but only two in its two setbacks – to Mount St. Charles and Hendricken.

Cumberland leads Division 2 with a perfect mark 4-0-0.

Speaking of perfect, Ponaganset has done just that in the early going, also starting 4-0-0. They hook up with Cumberland Jan. 12.

Burrillville has dropped three out of its first six but has been competitive outside of the 4-0 blanking to our No. 1 in this week’s poll, Hendricken.

In its four wins, Cranston West has outscored its opponents to the tune of 30-3.

Lincoln and Portsmouth will be threats in Division 2, and each have begun by winning three games in the early going.
