Who’s your No. 1 in the Ocean State? The team that is still undefeated in in-state play, after beating the state’s No. 2 this past week, that’s who. That would be Bishop Hendricken, which topped LaSalle, 3-2, in a battle for Rhode Island supremacy January 4. Hendricken did suffer its first loss the following day to Mass. D1 power Pope Francis.

LaSalle and Smithfield hooked up in another huge game Jan. 5. It was defending state champion LaSalle that took care of business, beating the Sentinels, 5-2. Smithfield had beaten Burrillville, 4-2, in its prior game.

Mount St. Charles doubled up Moses Brown/Tolman/East Providence, 4-2, at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket and holds onto the No. 3 slot this week.

Ponaganset in the Division 2 game of the week nipped Cranston West, 2-1, to stay unbeaten. Huge game alert: Saturday, Jan. 12: Cumberland vs. Ponaganset at Levy Arena (7 pm) for the bragging rights to the top of Division 2. Cumberland owned North Kingstown, 4-0, in its lone game of the new year thus far.

Cranston West beat Lincoln, 5-3, before falling to Ponaganset.

Burrillville as mentioned earlier dropped its only game, 4-2, to Smithfield and has a tough one Thursday, Jan. 10, against LaSalle at Levy Arena (6 p.m.).

PCD/St. Raphael/Wheeler (PSW) is on a two-game win streak. It beat East Greenwich, 3-2, and Rogers/Middletown/Rocky Hill (RMR), 4-1.

RMR despite the loss to PSW gets into the top 10 after beating last week’s No. 10, Portsmouth, 4-1.
