Bishop Hendricken is the team to beat in the Ocean State. The Hawks won the MSC Holiday Faceoff Tournament with wins over La Salle College High (Wyndmoor, Penn.), La Salle, its Rhode Island rival, and St. Joseph Collegiate Institute (Buffalo, NY).

La Salle despite its loss to Hendricken looks strong heading into the New Year. It beat Fairfield (Conn.) Prep and Mount St. Charles in that MSC tourney. The Rams get another crack at Hendricken on Friday.

Mount St. Charles is looking to find a winning rhythm. It’s lost two in a row – to St. Joseph Collegiate Institute and La Salle.

Smithfield is trying to keep pace with the big guns in Division 1. The team split its last two contests, losing big to St. Dominic’s (5-0) and beating Lewiston, Maine (4-3) in the St. Dominic’s Holiday Classic in Auburn, Maine.

Cumberland leads Division 2 and picked up a nice tie with Division 1 Moses Brown/East Providence/Tolman.

Burrillville may be down in the standings in Division 1, but it showed where it belongs with a  7-1 win over Cranston West and 7-0 win over North Smithfield, its Division 2 foes.

Cranston West had won four in a row before falling to Burrillville.

Ponaganset is still unbeaten on the season and faces South Kingstown on Friday.

Lincoln and Portsmouth are pretty much interchangeable in the poll at this point. Each team is off to solid starts in Division 2 and will be seeing each other in the New Year.
