And it’s a top-two showdown in Division 1. LaSalle and Mt. St. Charles will hook up in the finals of the top division in Rhode Island. Game 1 is set for Friday, March 13 at Meehan Auditorium at Brown University.
Each team swept their semifinal matchups – LaSalle knocked out Burrillville and Mount St. Charles took care of Bishop Hendricken in two games.
LaSalle vs. Burrillville
LaSalle outscored Burrillville, 12-0, in the series. In an 8-0 Game 1 win, Kevin Kanaczet, Matthew Belcher, Austin Tasca (two), Jake Costa, John Devine, Zenas Kennedy and James McCue-Louvet had the goals. Devine added four assists, and Joseph Iannuccilli only had to make nine saves to earn the shutout.
The Rams only had half the goals in Game 2 but got the same result, winning, 4-0, thanks to two goals each by Devine and Brayden Edwards. McCue-Louvet had two assists. Iannuccilli had another shutout with 13 saves. Burrillville goalie Dylan Nault made 45 saves in an outstanding effort. The Broncos did hand LaSalle its only regular season loss.
Mount St. Charles vs. Bishop Hendricken
The Mounties opened up the series with a 5-1 win in Game 1. Alex Pratt had a pair of goals and picked up an assist. Brian Testa added a goal and an assist. Matt Mahoney had two helpers. Cee-Jay Laquerre and Micaiah Bascombe also scored for the Mounties. Nathan Palumbo had the Hendricken goal. Jason Mandeville made 24 saves for the winners.
Trey Bourque scored the winner on a feed from John Belisle for the Mounties in a dramatic 3-2 overtime win in Game 2. Laquerre scored to make it 2-2 with about five minutes left. Bourque had gotten the Mounties on the board to cut into the 2-0 Hendricken lead with 7:30 left in the game.
East Greenwich awaits the winner of the South Kingstown-Lincoln semifinal series for the state championship. East Greenwich swept Cranston West to get there. South Kingstown beat Lincoln, 5-1, in Game 1 to set up a Game 2 matchup Monday night, March 9, at Boss Arena.
East Greenwich vs. Cranston West
East Greenwich won the opener, 4-2. It took a 3-2 lead heading into the final period and added an insurance goal in the third. Conrad Swanson got his postseason going in the right fashion with a hat trick. And Cam Gaffney added the fourth goal. Cam Koretsky and Thomas Harper had the Cranston West goals. Cole Barron had the win in net with 27 saves.
In Game 2 Swanson stepped up again for Eastie with two goals and one assist in a 5-3 win. Jake Barron had a goal and an assist. Koretsky had two goals in the loss.
South Kingstown vs. Lincoln
South Kingstown won Game 1 decisively, 5-1. Ryan O’Donnell had a goal and two helpers. Andy Sprague found the net and added an assist. Roderick Mather had 27 saves. Kevin Degnan had the Lincoln goal.
Pilgrim vs. WW/EWG
It will come down to a winner-take-all Game 3 final between Pilgrim and WW/EWG Tuesday, March 10 at the Boss (4:30 p.m.). Pilgrim is looking for the three-peat. Pilgrim won the opener, 3-1, but WW/EWG came back with a 5-2 win in Game 2.
James Cook, AJ Sherlock and Collin Driscoll had the goals for Pilgrim in Game 1, and Ethan Jedson scored for WW/EWG.
In Game 2, Jedson had a pair of goals, and Kevin Macdonald added 32 saves for WW/EWG. Jake Hernandez, Robert Paquette and Liam Hogan added a goal apiece for the winners. Driscoll and Sean Noel scored for Pilgrim.
