STATE CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

The four quarterfinal best-of-three series in the State Championship Division have been announced and will commence on Friday night.

B1 LaSalle (20-2-1) vs A4 Warwick Co-op (1-10-2)

LaSalle finished the Rhode Island portion of its schedule with a win over Hendricken this past weekend. The Rams’ only loss this season came to Xaverian from Massachusetts the night after. The Rams are set to face Pilgrim (A4) in the quarterfinals. The winner of that series will face either Hendricken or Mt. St. Charles in the semifinals.

B3 Bishop Hendricken (12-4-1) vs A2 Mt. St. Charles (7-10-1)

Speaking of Hendricken, they had another strong year aside from the loss to LaSalle to close out the final weekend of the regular season. It’s been an up-and-down year for Mt. St. Charles (7-10-1, A2) but they’re back in the dance and that’s really all that matters. Experience can’t be overstated and when your program has a ton of it this time of year, anything can happen. This could be one of the best matchups throughout the postseason between these two heavyweights.

A1 Burrillville (6-7-2) vs B4 Moses Brown (8-12-1)

The Burrillville/Moses Brown matchup is much more of a toss up. Both teams have had their moments this year and either one could squeak by the other and earn a trip to the semifinals.

A3 Smithfield (6-7-1) vs B2 East Greenwich (15-4-1)

At first glance, the East Greenwich and Smithfield matchup should go to EG. The Avengers have been able to hang in the standings with LaSalle all year and it feels like a deep run may be coming.

DIVISION 2

Two single-elimination play-in games set for Tuesday, February 22,

#4 Rogers/Middletown/Rocky Hill (8-8-3) vs #5 PCD/St Raphael’s/Wheeler (7-8-3)

#3 Portsmouth (8-9-1) vs #6 North Smithfield (7-9-4)

the only two teams locked into the D2 bracket right now are North Kingstown and Lincoln.

#1 North Kingstown (15-2-2) has been at the top of D2 for the entire season and is the clear cut favorite to take home the title this season. They will face the winner of the 4/5 matchup in a best-of-three series starting this weekend.

#2 Lincoln (10-10-0) had a much different road to get into the dance, scraping and clawing their way to the semifinals. They’ll be a dangerous out simply because they may get over looked. The Lions get the winner of the 3/6 matchup.
