LaSalle Academy (3-1-0) gets the slight nod as the #1 team in the HNIB News first Rhode Island Top 8 of the season. Off to another great start (the only loss was a non-leaguer to Massachusetts’ top team – St. John’s Prep), Shawn Tingley’s crew looks like it’s on a mission (as usual) this year. some big early season wins and no sign of slowing down, but obviously, it’s early.
Right behind at #2 is Bishop Hendricken (3-0-0). It hasn’t all been smooth sailing to open the year for Hendricken, but they’ve got to be up near the top until there is a reason not to. Got a big win over Mt.St. Charles early, they’ll be their usual competitive self all season.
LaSalle and Hendricken meet for the first time this season on Wednesday.
#3 Burrillville is off to a 4-2-0 start to the season. It seems like the Broncos will be a tough opponent for other teams this season. Playing with confidence and no reason not to believe they can compete with any of the big dogs in the state.
#4 Cumberland has started the young season at 3-0-0, including a 2-1 win over #5 East Greenwich on Monday. – It will be interesting to see if they can maintain it and hang with the upper echelon of teams this winter.
