Bishop Hendricken (9-4-1) holds on to the top spot in this week’s HNIB News Rhode Island Top 8. It was a split weekend, but they took the more important league game and won convincingly over previously unbeaten Cumberland, and gave Mass. power Pope Francis a battle in a 4-3 loss. A mid-week game with Mt. St. Charles is up on Wednesday. Darien (CT) is Saturday’s opponent.
Despite a split week of its own, Lasalle Academy (8-6-1) is #2 this week. The Rams won in impressive fashion over EG after the surprising loss to Barrington. They face North Kingstown on Wednesday.
#3 Warwick Co-op (9-4-1) just goes quietly going about its business and winning games. They knocked off North Kingstown on Friday (6-1), and fell to Connecticut D1 heavy Fairfield Co-op on Saturday. This weekend, it will be Burrillville on Friday, then an interesting matchup with North Haven, Connecticut’s #1 ranked team in D2, on Saturday.
#4 Cumberland (9-2-1) had a very tough week, suffering its first two losses of the season to Henricken, and then Burrillville. The Clippers are off until February 8,
#5 Prout (11-5-0) had solid wins over East Greenwich (3-1) and Mt. St. Charles (5-1) and look ahead to Cumberland on February 8.
#6 Portsmouth (9-2-2) – Continues to roll with convincing wins this week North Smithfield (5-2) and Cranston Co-op (9-2). They are still unbeaten in Division 2. Exeter-West Greenwich (Friday) and Ponaganset (Saturday) are up next.
Narragansett/Chariho (9-3-0) enters this week’s rankings at #7 after knocking Lincoln out of the Top 8 with a 7-2 win this past Saturday. Mt. Hope is next on Saturday.
#8 Mt. St. Charles (6-10-0) might not have the overall record, but the Mounties can still be a dangerous team.
