Rhode Island HS Hockey – Highlights: LaSalle Wins 3 In Solid Week; Burrillville Upends Mt. St. Charles

Kevin Stone, a Waltham High Class of 06 graduate, played lacrosse and golf before going into journalism at New England College in Henniker, NH. Kevin went to Framingham State and Middlesex Community College after that. – LaSalle swept a tough stretch with a 2-1 OT win over Smithfield, a 4-0 win over Moses Brown and a 5-2 statement win over a very good Cumberland team. Marcello Martinelli had the lone goal in the first period for the Rams. In OT, Andrew Bradley scored with assists going to Evan Barbosa and Paul Bogoshian. Seamus Murphy had two against MB and two against Cumberland. Mark Frateschi and Tyler Garofalo each scored against Moses Brown while Vincent Healey, Bradley and Ronan Peterson all potted goals in the win over Cumberland. Ian Pomfret made 26 saves in net. The Rams play Cumberland one more time on February 15.

Hendricken took part in the Pope Francis Invitational Tournament this week and earned a spot in the title game before losing to the hosts 9-2. In the first game, Hendricken beat Northwest Catholic (CT) 5-2.

– Mount St. Charles beat Fairfield Prep (CT) 4-3 last week but also lost 4-2 to Burrillville, who was playing with its full roster for the first time all year. Burrillville got goals from Jack Farrell (2), Ethan Murphy and Colin Laprade who also added an assist. The Broncos swept the season series against MSC.

– Cumberland beat Warwick 7-2 and Prout 5-0 prior to the loss to LaSalle. Sammy Lopes had a hat trick in the win over Prout. Brady Martin put Warwick up 1-0 early. From there, Jamie Robbins and Jacob Lopes each scored twice, Freshman Dylan Skura also scored his first varsity goal.

-South Kingstown continues to make noise in D2 with a 4-1 win over Ponaganset and a 2-1 win over Coventry. Two first period goals by Michael Peters and Ethan Hood stood up against Coventry while Luke Gordon made 25 saves. In the victory over Ponaganset, Nolan Quirk, Shea Sullivan, Cody Granville and Eison Nee all scored.

– Roger/Middletown/Tiverton got wins over PCD/St. Raphael’s (7-0) and Mt. Hope (9-5)  last week. Johnny Lopes, Noah Leys and Keaton O’Shea all scored in the first against PCD/SR. Leys added another in the second before O’Shea, Evan Agren and Christian Berluti scored in the third. Against Mt. Hope, Berluti, Agren and Leys scored around two goals from Jackson Harney. Lopes (2) and Shea scored in the second, but Mt. Hope got two more goals from Harney and one from Oliver Browne before Lopes, O’Shea and Brayden Swanycam finished things off.

– Lincoln and West Warwick tied 3-3. Derrick Wood and Jake Key opened the scoring in the first for Lincoln before Dylan Waterman scored in the second to make it 2-1 after two. Waterman tied it up in the third, but Jaden Bourski put the Lions back on top. Late in the third, Tyler Lacombe potted the tying goal. Mason Meloccaro made 28 saves for WW while Nathan Goff made 16 for Lincoln.
