Reilly Miller sure did pick the right time to get hot for the Bishop Hendricken hockey team. He had 11 goals in the regular season then 11 in five playoff games to help lead his team to a state title series win over Mount St. Charles.
The team won the clinching game, 4-0, for a series sweep in the best-of-three finals. It was Hendricken’s second title in five years and the fourth overall.
Tournament MVP Patrick Creamer had a couple of goals, one coming off an assist from red-hot Miller.
Andrew Hopgood added a goal off a loose puck, and Miller added a goal himself.
“We had a great playoff run led by senior Reilly Miller,” Hendricken coach Jim Creamer said. “ After compiling 11 goals in the regular season, he added 11 in five playoff games. Juniors Patrick Creamer (24 regular-season goals, five playoff goals) and Andrew Hopgood (five regular-season goals, four playoff goals) were also big contributors. Sophomore defenseman Matthew Rickard was a strong presence at both ends of the rink. We lose seven seniors but return a very strong group for next season.”
Hendricken finished 15-10-0 overall and 11-5-0 in the league.
Mount St. Charles (16-12-0 overall, 12-6-0 in the league) got tremendous seasons out of Danny Allen (11-22-33 regular season), Brian Simpson (16-5-21) and Tyler Rudek (15-5-20).
