New Jersey HS Hockey: Greater Middlesex Conference Preview

The Greater Middlesex Conference will feature a six-team field this winter. St. Joseph Metuchen looks to be the team to beat heading into the season.

Home Rink: Woodbridge Community Center

The Falcons will be a young and fast team, one that plans on making smart decision and getting shots on net.

A host of forwards return for coach Ryan Carter. The big group features seniors Mark Borek (18 pts), Joseph Morrello (17 pts), Danny Bradshaw (15 pts) and Norman Matyl (14 pts).  Throw into the mix juniors Connor Kaczmarek (17 pts), Mike McElwain and Matt Cuccia, and sophomore Ivan Borisov.

On defense, seniors Matt Samarelli and Samuel Welsh and junior Jeff Allen will have key roles.

In goal, Nick Allen returns. He saw some time in the net last winter.

Home Rink: Jersey Shore Arena

With some holes to fill due to graduation, the new players to the club are ready to step up and fill those roles.

A key guy that is back up front for the Falcons will be junior Gleb Veremyev (73 pts). He will be joined in the forward lines by seniors Anthony Zito (35 pts) and Jacob Bailey (27 pts), junior Vincent Foresta (26 pts) and sophomore John Bono (11 pts). New freshman Dylan Batko adds depth.

A defensive nucleus has seniors Michael Russo (13 pts) and Max Tucker (17 pts) and sophomore Kyle Conover. Freshman Aidan Goetz looks for time.

New freshman William Burkshot will be in the goaltending mix.

Home Rink: Old Bridge Ice Arena

Some good numbers return which hopefully will help Old Bridge be right in the mix in the GMC.

Juniors Alex Sech (43 pts) and David Kish (25 pts) will be offensive leaders for coach Robert Cotugno. Matthew Kravets (37 pts) is another go-to guy up front. Also returning in the forward lines are Justin Greene, Rishab Nukala, Maximilian Dec, Patrick Chomanic and Sean Weber.

Senior Nicholas Skliarenko (14 pts) is a key returner on defense that also will get involved offensively. Also back are Lukas Carny, Chris Kennedy-Moir and Michael Gualario.

Two goaltenders return: Vincent Marzullo and Dylan Schroeder.

* Also competing in the Greater Middlesex Conference are South Brunswick, Colonia/Woodbridge and Edison/JP Stevens
