Well now, things just got interesting and based on the best possible barometer — head-to-head result(s) — new No. 1 Belmont/Gilford leads the pack following its 5-3 win against former No. 1 and now No. 2 John Stark/Hopkinton on Saturday.

Belmont/Gilford also routed No. 8 Laconia/Winnisquam earlier in the week and faces a packed week with Moultonborough/Interlakes, Kennett and No. 6 Souhegan all on the schedule. JSH, meanwhile, looks to rebound against ConVal before facing off against Kennett.

That same head-to-head logic applies to the next two teams as well.

Having ended a three-game slide last weekend, No. 3 Berlin/Gorham then dealt Kennett its first loss of the season Tuesday, 4-1, in its only game this week. Coupled with an earlier 1-1 tie between the teams, the Mountaineers took three of four possible points, enough to jump up.

No. 4 Kennett took out its frustration on the first-year Sanborn program Saturday. The Eagles have a jammed three-game week against Laconia-Winnisquam, Belmont/Gilford and JSH.

No. 5 Moultonborough/Interlakes won both of its games to nudge above .500 and faces Sanborn, Bemont/Gilford and Laconia/Winnisquam in the coming week.

Given the number of head-to-head meetings of Top Five teams this week, this poll could look decidedly different a week from now.
