MIAA Super 8: Hingham Blanks Framingham; Xaverian Wins Thriller

Hingham and Xaverian were victorious Saturday in their elimination bracket games, and will now square off Monday at 6:30 pm at Gallo Arena in the next round for the right to meet the loser of Monday’s BC High-Pope Francis matchup.

* The #3 Harbormen moved on with a workmanlike 3-0 win over #5 Framingham, eliminating the Flyers. Hingham scored a goal in each period and got a 17-save shutout from netminder Aaron Richardson.

Hingham would score the only goal it would need just 1:28 into the game. Joe Sullivan wheeled into the slot and fired a wrist shot. Framingham goalie Jake Handy made the stop but Paul Forbes was right there to bang home the rebound. In the second period, Trevor O’Brien, made a nice play along the right wing boards to get the puck to defenseman Mike Carroll at the point, Carroll’s shot was deflected home by Will Kenney.

Ryan Reilly notched a power play goal in the third period for the Harbormen.

* In Saturday’s nightcap, Xaverian squandered a 4-1 third period lead but senior forward Mike Pitocchelli buried a wrister from the left side with 54 seconds left in regulation giving the Hawks a 5-4 win over #4 Arlington, eliminating the Spy Ponders.

After Will Jennings had given Arlington a 1-0 lead in the first period, Xaverian got successive goals from Eric Wainwright, Matty Ryan, Robbie Barletta and Josh Barton to grab a 4-1 heading into the third period. But, the Spy Ponders stormed back.

Brendan Jones scored a power play goal in the first minute of the third period to cut the margin to 4-2, and that was followed by Jennings’ second of the night, and one from Anthony Messuri to tie the game at 4-4.
