MIAA Girls Tournament Quarterfinals: Methuen/Tewksbury Rolls On In D1; Wellesley, Walpole Advance To D2 Semifinals

DIVISION 1

Methuen/Tewksbury

* #3 Methuen/Tewksbury rolled into the Division 1 semifinal round with another solid win, scoring four third period goals to break open the game and post a 7-1 win over Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading. Sharpshooter Julia Masotta continued her torrid scoring pace, tallying four goals, giving her 48 goals on the season. She had the Red Rangers first three tallies as they build a 3-1 lead over two periods.

Cassidy Gruning, Carolyn Curley and Brenna Greene each had a goal as well for M/T, who will meet the winner of Friday’s Shrewsbury-Longmeadow quarterfinal. Sammie Mirasolo had the lone goal for the Tanners.

DIVISION 2

* Defending state champion Wellesley got goals from five different players, advancing to the semifinals with a 6-1 win over Norwell. LuLu Rourke led the Raiders attack with a pair of goals, while Erin Fleming, Isabelle Kressy, Emily Rourke and Michelle Bourdon added single tallies. Casey Messina had a goal for Norwell, whose campaign ended at 15-5-1. Next up for the Raiders? A semifinal battle with top-seeded Walpole. The teams tied 1-1 in a regular season contest.

* Walpole advanced with a solid 4-1 win over #9 Matignon. Meghan Hamilton staked the Rebels to a 1-0 lead in the first period and they never looked back. Olivia Brooks scored two goals while Emily DeSimone had the other for the winners. Matignon, which finished up at 15-6-2, got a goal from Carolyn Mahoney.
