* After losing a pair of games to St. Mary’s during the regular season by scores of 4-1 and 5-0, #11 Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading turned the tables in Monday’s MIAA Division 1 first round clash. The Tanners scored a pair of goals late in the second period, and added two more in the third for a 4-0 win and a berth in the quarterfinals. Jess Robert potted both of those second period goals, one shorthanded, to give Peabody the only goals it would need. Sammie Mirasolo added a pair of third period strikes to put this one away, and Abby Buckley was solid between the pipes. The Tanners will now face Methuen/Tewksbury in a quarterfinal Thursday at O’Brien Rink in Woburn (5:30pm). St. Mary’s finishes up at 17-3-2.
* Down 2-0 entering the third peiriod, #9 Matignon rallied for a pair of goals to send the game into overtime, where a Lexie Turner goal early in extra time won it for the Warriors, 3-2, over #8 Pembroke. Alaina Aiello and Carolyn Mahoney had third period goals for Matignon, which now faces top-seeded Matignon on Thursday (7:30pm, O’Brien Rink). Nikki Rinkus and Jade Sullivan scored for Pembroke, which finished at 14-6-2.
* Defending state champion Wellesley made a big statement, blanking Canton 5-0 in a rematch of last year’s title game. The Raiders got goals from five different players – Erin Fleming, Emily Rourke, Bliss Vernon, Bridget Noonan and LuLu Rourke. Next up for the Raiders is a quarterfinal date with Norwell (Thursday, 7pm at Warrior Arena). Canton’s season ends at 12-6-5.
