In 1972, two lifetime high school hockey fans started a weekly broadcast of Greater Boston high school games on WBOS-FM (92.9). The duo - Lance LoFaro and Darby Yaeger - called the nightly broadcasts "Hockey Night in Boston". As of late, HNIBnews - over 40 years running - has kept the scholastic hockey world on its feet with its widely-read website HNIBnews.com. In addition to HNIBnews, Hockey Night in Boston runs MassHSHockey.com, and also hosts summer tournaments showcasing the talents of scholastic hockey.

#22 seed Barnstable made a long road trip worth its while, shutting out the #11 seed Woburn at O’Brien Rink in the MIAA Girls Division 2 Tournament Thursday night.

The Tanners, who had not been shutout all season long could not get much going offensively against the Hawks defense and stellar goaltending of Codi Pickering.

Barnstable got the scoring started in the first period on a wrister by Ally McEneaney that just trickled under the pads of Woburn goalie Alyssa Wackrow.

Grace Holden Barnstable

Sophomore Grace Holden extended Barnstable’s lead to 2-0 midway through the second period, knocking home the rebound of a Penny Baroni shot. Later on in the period, defenseman Penelope Clifford fired a high shot from the blue line that hit a Woburn defender’s and snuck past Wackrow. Reagan Hicks and Holden drew assists on the goal.

In the third period, Woburn (15-5-2) had some chances, but couldn’t get the puck past Pickering (18 saves.)

Barnstable will now move on to the Round of 16 and take on the winner of Sarturday’s Natick-Lincoln Sudbury game.
