* Top-seeded Wellesley, the two-time defending MIAA Girls Division 2 champions, are back where everyone expected them to be, in the state final at TD Garden. The Raiders made sure they would get the chance for a third straight crown, blanking Falmouth, 6-0, in a semifinal matchup Sunday at Warrior Arena. The Clippers got out of the first period in a scoreless tie, but the Raiders were able to score three times in both the second and third periods for the win.
Senior Emily Rourke scored a pair of goals for Wellesley, including the game-winner early in the second period. Bliss Vernon, Danielle Cimino, Mackenzie O’Neil and Devon Morton added goals for the Raiders.
* Also reaching the state final will be third-seeded Canton, which edged second-seeded Norwell, 3-1. Canton lost to Wellesley in the 2018 state final and look forward to another crack at the Raiders. Goals by Lizzie Tassinari and Maya Battista gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead after two periods, and freshman Olivia Maffeo tacked on the insurance marker in the third period. Casey Messina had the goal for the Clippers, who finished an impressive season at 20-3-0.
