Top-seed Austin Prep and Shrewsbury won their quarterfinal matchups on Saturday, and advanced to the Division 1 semifinal round.
– Austin Prep got HPNA’s best shot, but the Cougars avoided any potential upset with a 4-0 win. AP outshot HPNA only by a 25-21 margin, but the #9 seed could not get any pucks past Austin senior goalie Lauryn Hanafin.
The Cougars led 1-0 after the first period with a goal by Isabel Hulse, assisted by Mckenzie Cerrato.
In the second period, Kathryn Karo made it 2-0, assisted by Hulse and Madison Vittands. And later on in the period, Cerrato scored the back-breaking goal, converting while the Cougars were shorthanded, to make it 3-0 after two periods.
Karo’s second goal closed out the scoring in the third period.
– #6 Shrewsbury advanced to the semifinal round, getting an overtime goal from senior defenseman Aislinn Bennett to stun #3 Notre Dame Academy, 2-1. The Cougars grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Devon Moore.
The Colonials, advancing to the semifinals for the first time in school history, evened the score in the second period on a goal from Katie Vona. Kaci Ryder assisted on both goals for Shrewsbury, and Risa Montoya made 21 saves.
