MIAA D2 Girls First Round: Big Day For Westwood’s Keith; D-Y Ousted

Kat Keith

* #3 Westwood exploded for four second period goals to break open a close game en route to a 6-1 win over Natick. Senior Kat Keith had a huge game, scoring five of Westwood’s six goals. The Wolverines will meet the winner of Monday’s Bishop Stang/Algonquin-Hudson game in a quarterfinal matchup.

* Falmouth pulled the day’s biggest surprise, knocking off #2 seed Dennis-Yarmouth, 5-4. A late goal by Ryann McDonald, her second goal of the game, proved to be the game-winner for the Clippers. Samantha McKenzie also had two goals and Megan Azzato one for Falmouth, which will play Notre Dame of Hingham in a quarterfinal contest (TBA).

* Tess Flanders scored the only goal Norwell would need in its 1-0 win over Bishop Fenwick. The Clippers await the winner of the Wellesley/Canton battle on Monday for a quarterfinal playoff opponent.

* Kelly Morrissey scored two goals as Notre Dame of Hingham edged Dedham, 3-2. Danielle Longuemare also scored for the Cougars, who now get ready for Falmouth.
