The MIAA post-season got underway Monday night with a pair of preliminary round games, one in Division1 and one in Division 4.
Division 1
King Philip 7, Weymouth 2
The Warriors move on to a Thursday night date with top-seeded St. John’s Prep after a convincing win over host Weymouth. Senior forwards Shaun Fitzpatrick (4) and Nolan Feyler (3) were a two-man wrecking crew, combining for all seven goals. Leading 2-1 late in the first period, Fitzpatrick and Feyler each scored to give KP a 4-1 advantage and they never looked back. Jimmy Flaherty and Andrew Ferguson scored for the Wildcats, who finish at 6-14-2.
Division 4
Littleton/Bromfield 7, South Hadley 2
Freshman Zachary Lizotte had two goals and three assists, including a key power play goal in the second period as the No. 30 seed eventually pulled away in a matchup of Tigers at Nashoba Valley Olympia. Junior Tyler Edwards (two goals, two assists), freshman Ethan King (two goals) and senior Ryan McNulty chipped in scoring for Littleton/Bromfield (11-8-2), which advances to play No. 3 Stoneham in a first-round game. Senior captain Joe Meon had both goals for No. 35 South Hadley (9-9-2), his first a shorthanded tally that cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second period. But Lizotte scored on a 2-on-1 break just 11 seconds later to give momentum back to the hosts.
