MIAA Boys Division 3 North Final: Lowell Rallies For Second Sectional Title In 3 Years

Lowell (16-5-2) lost twice to Newton South in the regular season. But it was all Red Raiders in the North finals Sunday night. After falling behind 2-0, Lowell scored five unanswered goals and claimed the MIAA Division 3 North crown for the second time in three seasons with a 5-2 victory.

Lowell was blanked in the opening period but saw Andrew Kotsifas score early in the middle period. With under five minutes to go in the period, Lowell captain Thomas Hassett tied things up at two.

Less than a minute later, Benjamin Asselin gave Lowell its first lead, one it would never relinquish.

Junior Brendan DeMarco scored two third-period goals to ice it for the Red Raiders.

Newton South senior Johnny Baker scored twice in the opening period for the 2-0 Newton South lead.

The Red Raiders will face D3 South champ Hopkinton on Wednesday (Tsongas Arena, 7pm) in a Division 3 state semifinal. The winner gets the winner of the other semifinal between CMass champ Wachusett and WMass champ Longmeadow on Sunday at TD Garden.
