MIAA Boys Division 1 South Final: Duxbury Punches Ticket To State Final

Instead of being down following the loss to Xaverian in a Super 8 playoff game, Duxbury, which returned to the MIAA Division 1 South sectional as the top-seed, used it as a rallying cry. And now, the Dragons will play for a Division 1 state championship.

Utilizing its solid defensive style of play, Duxbury blanked 11th-seeded Franklin 3-0 at Gallo Arena Sunday to win the D1 South sectional. It was the eighth shutout of the season for the Dragons, who 21-5-0 overall.

Todd Jones’s unassisted goal early in the first period got the Dragons going and turned out to be the only goal they would need. Duxbury also cashed in early in the second period to make it 2-0 on a goal by Tanner Smith. James Lawler upped the margin to 3-0 late in the second period.

Junior Steve Pisani had 24 saves to record the shutout.

Duxbury will now play for a D1 state title Sunday at TD Garden against the winner of Monday’s North sectional championship game between Winchester and St. John’s Prep.
