MIAA Boys D1 North Semifinals: Winchester, St. John’s Prep Advance With 4-2 Wins

* For the second straight post-season game, #3 Winchester found itself in a two-goal deficit. And for the second straight post-season game, the Sachems rallied for the win. Junior Ryan McCarthy scored three goals, including the game-winner, to give Winchester a 4-2 win over Billerica and a berth in the D1 North sectional final for the second straight season. Colin Van Stry added an insurance tally.

St. John’s Prep

The Sachems will face St. John’s Prep for the North title Monday night at Tsongas Arena (7:30 pm). Alex Coulot and Matt Covino had the goals for Billerica, which finished a solid campaign at 12-7-5.

* Ryan Hart‘s goal with 2:55 left in regulation snapped a 2-2 deadlock and powered St. John’s Prep to a 4-2 win over Andover in the night’s other semifinal action. The game was tied 1-1 entering the third period before Ryan Bradley scored to put the Eagles ahead. But, Andover responded to tie it when Evan Arpin grabbed a loose puck in front and scored.

The Golden Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Anthony Previte. Ryan Webb tied the contest in the second period for St. John’s Prep and Patrick Moran iced it with an empty net tally. Andover ends up at 14-7-2.
