Mass. Girls D2 Top 10
|4||Notre Dame Hingham||7||11||3||1|
For the first time this season, there is a new #1 team in the HNIB News Massachusetts Girls D2 Top 10.
Westwood (11-1-3) moves into the top spot, thanks to a solid week that saw wins over Medfield (4-1) and Dover-Sherborn/Hopkinton (5-0). The Wolverines will face Medway/Ashland Tuesday and Norwood Saturday.
#2 Walpole (12-3-1) dropped a tough one Saturday to D1 Braintree (3-1), the second time the Rebels have fell to the Wamps. Earlier, Walpole handed Franklin its first loss. Looking ahead, the Rebels get Natick on Wednesday.
Canton (8-3-4) jumps up to #3, a win over King Philip (5-0) its only action this week. The Bulldogs get Franklin (Wednesday) and Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro Saturday.
#4 Notre Dame Academy (11-3-1) is at #4 this week, after a win (3-2) and a tie (1-1) against previous #1 Wellesley. The Cougars also blanked Milton (5-0). They are off until facing D1’s #1 team Austin Prep on Saturday.
Due to the traffic jam amongst key contenders, that loss and tie to Notre Dame puts Wellesley (9-3-3) at #5. The Raiders did pick up wins over Framingham (7-1) and Brookline (4-0) and look ahead to Braintree (Wednesday) and Newton (Saturday).
Matignon (9-5-2) climbs to #6 after beating Archbishop Williams (2-0) and tying D1 power St. Mary’s (1-1). The Warriors take on St. Joseph Prep on Saturday. Dana Smullen has been solid between the pipes.
#7 Dennis-Yarmouth (11-3-0) got tripped up by Barnstable (5-2). The Dolphins take on Cape Cod Furies (Wednesday) and Marshfield (Satrurday).
#8 Pembroke (11-2-2) was edged by Norwell 2-1 on Saturday. The Titans lone game this week is a tough one, against Duxbury.
That win over Pembroke moves Norwell (9-3-1) into this week’s rankings. The Clippers look ahead to Bishop Stang (Wednesday) and Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake (Saturday).
#10 Archbishop Williams (8-6-1) blanked Arlington Catholic (4-0) and will see Falmouth Saturday.
