They have been knocking at the door for awhile, and now Wellesley (12-2-2) has taken the top spot in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls D2 Top 10.

The Red Raiders posted wins over Walpole (3-1) and Framingham (8-3). A tough non-leaguer looms Monday with Arlington, and then Weymouth is on tap Saturday.

Notre Dame (8-4-1) suffered a loss to Needham (2-0) before responding with a key win Saturday over Duxbury (3-2). The Cougars look ahead to Ursuline (Thursday) and then D1 #1 Austin Prep (Saturday).

With a pair of shutout wins over Sandwich (6-0) and King Philip (2-0), Canton (10-1-3) leapfrogs back to #3. The Bulldogs have games scheduled with Franklin (Wednesday) and Mansfield/Oliver Ames (Saturday).

#4 Archbishop Williams (10-4-1) blanked both Matignon (2-0) and Arlington Catholic (6-0). The Bishops are off until Friday when they play Marblehead, and then have Latin Academy/Fontbonne on Sunday.

#5 Winchester (9-5-1) endured a pair of losses to D1 opponents Methuen/Tewksbury (6-2) and Melrose (3-2) before a big win over Lexington (4-1). The Sachems hope to get on a roll against Reading (Wednesday) and Belmont (Saturday).

Surging Natick (9-3-2) climbs to #6 after big wins over Milton (7-2) and Weymouth (5-0). The Redhawks have a three-game week with Algonquin/Hudson (Monday), Dedham (Wednesday) and Needham (Saturday).

#7 Milton (8-4-3) rebounded from the loss to Natick with a win over Brookline/Newton South (7-0). The Wildcats have Weymouth (Monday), Pembroke (Wednesday) and Newton North (Saturday).

#8 Westwood (11-6-1) tied Medfield (1-1) and blanked Dover-Sherborn/Hopkinton (5-0). The Wolverines are off until Saturday when they play new #10 Dennis-Yarmoth (10-4-1).

#9 Algonquin/Hudson (9-5-0) lost to Shrewsbury and then beat Auburn. The T-Hawks will be busy with four contests scheduled: Natick (Monday), Leominster (Wednesday), Masconomet (Thursday) and Longmeadow (Saturday),

Dennis-Yarmouth clinched the first Atlantic Coast League title Saturday with a win over Marshfield.
