Mass. Girls D2 Top 10

It’s been a steady climb, but Walpole (14-3-1) has now reached the top of the HNIB News Massachusetts Girls D2 Top 10. The Rebels, who blanked Milton 7-0 in their lastest action, have King Philip on the docket Monday, and then a huge battle with #5 Canton (10-4-5) on Thursday.
#2 Westwood (12-2-5) had been #1 but the Wolverines had a 5-1 loss to Needham and a tie (2-2) with Dedham. They have one regular season game remaining, with Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro on Thursday.
#4 Wellesley (13-3-3) had a convincing 8-0 trouncing of D1 Needham Sunday, its third straight win via the shutout. The Raiders get another crack at Austin Prep on Wednesday before beginning defense of their state title.
Canton’s scoreless streak was halted Saturday in a 2-0 loss to Hingham. The Bulldogs see D1 Barnstable Monday before the Walpole matchup.
#6 Matignon (11-5-2) is at the Inclusion Cup this week, taking on Beverly/Danvers Tuesday and either host Framingham or Latin Academy/Fontbonne on Thursday.
#7 Dennis-Yarmouth (15-3-0) chalked up a pair of solid wins, downing Archbishop Williams (3-1) and Pembroke (5-2). The Dolphins will be a force in the post-season after playing Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake (Monday) and Martha’s Vineyard (Wednesday).
Norwell (12-4-1) dropped a 4-0 decision to Duxbury and looks forward #9 Pembroke (12-4-2) on Monday at the Gould Memorial Tournament. Either Cohasset-Hanover or Scituate will be each team’s opponent on Wednesday.
Making its first rankings appearance of the season is #10 Dedham (11-4-4). The Marauders are coming off a 2-2 standoff with #2 Westwood.
