Monday’s heavy holiday slate produced a number of rivalry games that resulted in ties.
* In the Middlesex League, No. 3 Woburn (3-0-1) remained unbeaten as it battled Reading to a 3-3 deadlock. The Tanners took a 2-0 lead on goals from Ryan Scalesse and Jonathan Surrette. The Rockets countered with three unanswered from Zach Micciche, Cullen Emery and Colin Mulvey before Jackson Powers secured the tie for the Tanners.
* Also in the Middlesex League, unbeaten No. 8 Belmont (3-0-1) gained a point in a 2-2 tie with Winchester thanks to sophomore Ryan Griffin’s 34 saves. Ben Fici and Peter Grace netted the Marauders’ goals. Angelo Mario gave the Sachems a 1-0 lead at the half.
* Another Middlesex League matchup saw No. 18 Melrose (2-0-1) complete a two-game sweep of Watertown, 5-2. Brendan Fennell had a natural hat trick in the first half while Jason Pino and Charlie Haggerty scored after the break for the Raiders.
*Cape Ann League heavyweights Newburyport, the CAL’s only D1 team, and D2 North champion Triton battled to a 4-4 non-league tie in their first of three meetings. The Clippers (1-0-1) got goals from junior Jon Groth and seniors Tony Lucci, Zach Wilson and Owen Spence. Triton (3-0-1) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period, then scored late in the third for the tie. Ryan Lindholm (two), James Tatro and Cael Keohan scored for the Vikes.
*Independent Marshfield (1-0-2) edged No. 20 Duxbury (2-2-2) of the Patriot League in their annual Green Cup game, 3-2, in a shootout that goes into the books as a tie under MIAA rules. Will Nolan and T.J. Jones scored for the Green Dragons in regulation. Brady Clark had the SO game-winner and Ryland McGlame scored in regulation for the Rams.
*In the Catholic Central Large, No. 13 Archbishop Williams (4-0-3) remained unbeaten with a 5-2 decision of Bishop Feehan. The Bishops got two goals each from Matt Keenan and James O’Toole while Conor Kelly contributed a goal and two assists.
*Also in the CCL, unbeaten No. 4 St. Mary’s (3-0-1) dropped Arlington Catholic, 4-1, with junior Christian Iacoviello and freshman Jack Carpenter notching their first varsity goals and junior goalie Sam York earning his first win. Senior Max Giardina and junior Seamus Foley both had a goal and an assist for the Spartans.
*Falmouth (1-0-0) finally hit the ice with a sound 5-0 whitewash of Dennis-Yarmouth. Stone Devlin scored two goals for the Clippers.
