Massachusetts Boys D2 Top 15
The Big Three remain the Big Three in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts D2 Top 15 poll.
#1 Canton improved to 10-0-0 overall with wins over Foxboro and Stoughton. How impressive have the Bulldogs been this year? They have outscored opponents by a 55-8 margin. Things will get a bit tougher this week with games against Newburyport (Monday), Franklin (Wednesday) and North Attleboro (Sunday).
#2 Lincoln-Sudbury (9-1-1) is moving right along as well, with most-recent wins coming over Central Catholic (3-2) and Concord-Carlisle. Angelo Venuto and Johnny Oblak continue to drive the offense for first-year head coach Matt Carlin. After taking on Central Mass’ top team Algonquin (Monday), the Warriors will face #9 North Andover on Wednesday, and Haverhill Saturday.
Make it nine straight wins for #3 Masconomet (9-1-0), who blanked Newburyport (2-0) in a key Cape Ann League battle. The Chieftains will get Beverly (Monday) and Amesbury (Saturday). Senior Andrew Gotts is having another solid season up front (14-11-25) while Filippo Scarfo (3-13-16) has been a leader on the blue line.
Also up a few pegs in #5 Tewksbury (8-3-0). The Redmen dispatched Haverhill 7-1 on Saturday. The Redmen take on Westford Academy (Monday) and will see Danvers on Saturday. Sophomore William O’Keefe has 10 goals on the season.
#6 Medfield (5-0-4) is still unbeaten, but has had to settle for ties in its past two outings (1-1 with Medway, 2-2 with Norwood). It is three games this week for the Warriors: Bishop Feehan (Monday), Bellingham (Wednesday) and Holliston (Saturday).
#7 Marblehead (8-2-1) played Medford to a 1-1 tie Wednesday, and had Saturday’s non-leaguer with East Longmeadow postponed. A key NEC North tilt with Danvers looms Wednesday.
#8 Oliver Ames (8-4-1) had a tie (North Attleboro, 2-2) and a win (Taunton, 9-2) this past week. The Tigers are busy with Coyle Cassidy (Monday), Attleboro (Wednesday) and Mansfield (Saturday).
#9 North Andover (7-2-2) was off last week and has a game Monday with Methuen. Two more league games follow with the biggie with Lincoln-Sudbury (Wednesday) and Boston Latin (Saturday).
Impressive Quincy (10-2-0) cracks the Top 10 after back-to-back shutout wins over Bridgewater-Raynham. The Presidents are getting a huge season from defenseman Griffin Lynch, three goals Saturday in a 4-0 win over B-R. They get Pembroke Monday and Plymouth North Saturday.
