Massachusetts Boys D2 Top 15
There was plenty of shuffling in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Boys D2 Top 15. Some teams moved up, some teams moved down and two teams moved in.
Nothing new at the very top, where #1 Canton (15-0-0) keeps on chugging. The Bulldogs chalked up two more shutouts over Taunton (5-0) and Bishop Feehan (6-0). Ryan Nolte and Johnny Hagan have had terrific offensive years, and the team has allowed just 13 goals. On tap this week are Smithfield RI (Wednesday) and Shrewsbury (Saturday).
Masconomet (13-1-0) moves into the #2 spot this week after wins over Triton (3-2) and Pentucket (9-0). The Chieftains have been stingy on defense as well, allowing just 15 goals against all season. Filippo Scarfo (21 pts) has been solid on the blue line, and sophomore Logan Campbell has 14 goals.
#3 Lincoln-Sudbury (13-2-1) drops a peg after falling to Boston Latin (5-3). The Warriors rebounded for a 2-1 win over North Andover Saturday. L-S takes on Methuen Wednesday in anticipation of a big one Saturday against #4 Tewksbury (11-3-1). The Redmen are 5-0-1 since an earlier loss to L-S. It’s a big week for Tewksbury, as they travel to Boston Latin on Wednesday.
The biggest mover of the week is Westwood (8-1-5), up four spots to #5 after solid wins over Holliston (5-1) and Bellingham (9-2). The Wolverines have Hopkinton (Wednesday) and Medway (Saturday) this week.
#6 Medfield (9-1-4) is unbeaten no more after a Saturday loss to Lynnfield. The Warriors look to get back to winning ways this week against Ashland (Thursday) and Dover-Sherborn/Weston (Saturday).
A Saturday loss to Danvers moves #7 Winthrop (11-4-1) down a bit. The Vikings get Beverly (Wednesday) and Revere/Malden (Saturday). They are still tied atop the NEC North standings with #8 Marblehead (10-2-3). The Headers, who tied Saugus 1-1 on Saturday, play New Hampshire power Bedford on Monday, get Haverhill on Wednesday.
One of the hottest teams in D2 is #9 Boston Latin (10-3-2). The Wolfpack followed up the big win over Lincoln-Sudbury with a 4-1 conquest of Methuen. After Wednesday’s biggie with Tewksbury, BL gets Concord-Carlisle Saturday.
#10 Oliver Ames (11-5-1) lost to King Philip in its only action. The Tigers are at Mansfield Monday and play Brockton Saturday.
New to this week’s rankings are Lynnfield (9-4-2) at #13, winners of three straight, and Plymouth North (8-4-2) at #15, 5-0-1 in its last six outings.
