Massachusetts Boys Division 2 Poll
All but two teams in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts D2 Boys Top 15 are in different positions than they were last week. Those two teams are the top two teams, who keep rolling along.
#1 Canton (10-1-4) picked up Hockomock League wins over Taunton (10-0) and Mansfield (3-1), the latter win the 200th in the career of head coach Brian Shuman. The Bulldogs face a huge test Wednesday with rival Franklin, who handed Canton its only loss. Oliver Ames is Saturday’s opponent.
#2 Danvers (13-1-0) won a battle with Beverly (4-3) and then had a solid decision over Winthrop (6-1). The Falcons take on Saugus (Wednesday) and Gloucester (Saturday).
Up a spot to #3 is Stoneham (10-2-2), who knocked off Reading (5-2) for the first time in 14 seasons, and also conquered Haverhill (5-1) in a non-league match-up. The Spartans face neighboring Melrose (Wednesday) then a Middlesex League Freedom Division showdown with Burlington on Saturday.
#4 Lowell Catholic (8-3-2) split with Matignon, winning 3-1 then losing 8-6. In between, the Crusaders downed Arlington Catholic 4-1. League games are on the docket this week against St. Bernard’s (Wednesday) and John Paul II (Saturday).
#5 Lincoln-Sudbury (11-4-0) jumps up after a solid 6-2 win over North Andover that followed an equally convincing 5-1 win over Boston Latin. The Spartans continue league play with Methuen (Wednesday) and Tewksbury (Saturday).
A 2-0 loss to D1 Newburyport only drops Lynnfield (9-3-1) to #6. The Pioneers face Triton (Wednesday) and Masconomet (Saturday) in key Cape Ann clashes.
#7 North Andover (10-4-2) was flying high until the Saturday loss to Lincoln-Sudbury. The Scarlet Knights are off until a Saturday date with Medford.
Two shutout wins (both 2-0) help propel Westwood (10-4-2) to the #8 spot. The Wolverines will see Ashland (Wednesday) and Medfield (Saturday).
#9 Medfield (10-3-2) had a win over Dover-Sherborn (7-1) and a loss to rival Medway (3-1). Key Tri-Valley League clashes with Holliston (Wednesday) and Westwood (Saturday).
The #10 spot goes to Masconomet (7-4-2). The Chieftains rebounded from loss to Pentucket (5-4) with a win over North Reading (4-0). This week will be tough with Newburyport (Wednesday) and Lynnfield (Saturday).
#11 Beverly (9-5-4), #12 Scituate (8-6-1), #13 Medway (11-5-0), #14 Plymouth South (11-3-1), #15 Boston Latin (7-5-2) round out this week’s rankings.
