While a handful of teams should be all set with regards to a Super 8 berth when the teams are announced on Saturday, there is still another handful that may, or may not, grab a spot. A lot will depend on how things go in this final week of regular season play, highlighted by vacation week tournament action.

#1 Pope Francis (14-1-2) grabbed big wins over Austin Prep (3-1) and Mt. St. Charles (2-1). They face Malden Catholic Wednesday in the first round of the Cardinal Classic, then finish with either St. Mary’s or Central Catholic Thursday.

#2 BC High (14-2-2) opened the Buddy Ferreira Classic Saturday with a 4-0 win over Falmouth, coming on the heels of wins over Braintree (8-2) and St. Mary’s (6-2). A key second round matchup with Austin Prep looms Monday.

#3 Hingham (16-3-1) and #4 Duxbury (18-2-0) also won their opening games at the Ferreira Classic and will meet in a semifinal Monday. The Harbormen, who beat Duxbury 4-3 earlier this season, blanked Arlington Catholic (3-0), while the Dragons shut out Archbishop Williams (2-0).

#5 Austin Prep (13-3-3) needed overtime to advance over Reading at the Ferreira Classic. The Cougars look ahead to giving BC High a battle on Monday.

Wins over Winchester (3-2) and Belmont (4-1) have #6 Arlington (13-3-3) in a good stead. The Spy Ponders end their regular season Monday against #14 Andover in the Ed Burns Classic title game.

Mike Tersoni
Framingham

#7 Framingham (15-3-2) solidified its Super 8 standing with Saturday’s 6-4 win over Xaverian led by the four-goal outburst of Mike Tersoni. The Flyers move on to the Ed Cahoon Tournament where they face red-hot #18 Burlington in the first round Tuesday.

St. Mary’s (15-5-0) is #8 this week after a 2-0 win over Lowell Catholic. The Spartans ready for Central Catholic at the Cardinal Classic and a potential meeting with Pope Francis Thursday.

Marshfield (11-4-2) jumps to #9 after a 4-0 blanking of Xaverian this week. The Rams have Weymouth Monday before taking part in the Coach Melchiono Showdown starting Wednesday against Franklin.

#10 Catholic Memorial (11-6-0) had a mixed week, blanking St. John’s Prep (3-0) before falling to St. John’s of Shrewsbury (4-3) on Saturday. The Knights get St. John’s Prep again Monday before a pair of out-of-state games against LaSalle (Tuesday) and Fairfield Prep (Thursday).

Losses to Marshfield and Framingham have #11 Xaverian (11-6-2) on the bubble for the Super 8. The Hawks face #19 Melrose on Tuesday.

#12 Reading (11-6-3) takes on Falmouth Monday at the Buddy Ferreira Classic.
