As far as showdown games go at the Division 1 level, the upcoming week is chock full of them, the results of which could be very telling by the end of next weekend.

1/28: #1 BC High vs #8 Framingham

1/28: #4 Austin Prep vs #3 Arlington

1/28: #15 Braintree vs #5 Hingham

1/30: #5 Hingham vs #6 Catholic Memorial

1/30: #13 Winchester vs #18 Melrose

1/30: #17 Billerica vs #14 Andover

1/31: #1 BC High vs #2 Pope Francis

2/2: #5 Hingham vs #2 Pope Francis

2/2: #3 Arlington vs #16 Reading

For this week, the top six teams in the HNIB News Massachusetts Boys D1 Top 20 remain the same, including at the top, where #1 BC High (9-1-1) and #2 Pope Francis (9-1-1) stay put. Their Thursday battle at UMass-Boston (6:15pm) will be their second meeting of the year, with the Eagles winning 5-4 in late December at the Frates Tournament.

Both teams are coming off 6-0 wins, the Eagles over Burlington, and the Cardinals over Andover.

#3 Arlington (8-1-2) and #4 Austin Prep (11-1-2) square off Monday at Breakaway Ice Center (7:20pm). The Ponders returned from a 10-day layoff to blank Wilmington (4-0) Saturday, while the Cougars, after tying St. John’s of Shrewsbury (2-2), had a pair of shutout wins over Matignon (9-0) and Bishop Fenwick (5-0).

#5 Hingham (11-2-0) and #6 Catholic Memorial (10-2-0) meet Wednesday at Warrior Arena (7 pm). The Harbormen had a solid week, knocking off #7 St. Mary’s (4-2) and St. John’s of Shrewsbury (6-2). CM had a three-win week, beating Reading (4-3), Falmouth (4-1) and Malden Catholic (6-1).

St. Mary’s (12-2-0) rebounded from the loss to Hingham with a 3-1 win over Arlington Catholic. The Spartans have a pair of non-leaguers this week with Newburyport (Wednesday) and Franklin (Saturday).

Framingham (11-2-1) is up to #8, as the Flyers registered two more shutouts, blanking Newton North (7-0) and Walpole (3-0). The Flyers have allowed just 19 goals in 14 games and look to keep their success going against BC High Monday.

The big mover of the week is #9 Duxbury (12-2-0), up four spots with a couple of signature shutouts of #10 Xaverian (2-0) and #11 Marshfield (3-0). The Dragons get Quincy (Wednesday) and Barnstable (Saturday).

Archbishop Williams (8-2-2) is up to #12 this week and face league rivals Arlington Catholic (Wednesday) and Bishop Fenwick (Saturday) this week.

And, there are know no more undefeated teams left in Division 1, as #18 Melrose (8-1-5) fell Saturday to #16 Reading (7-5-2) by a 2-0 count.
