A handful of teams moved up, and a handful moved down in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Boys D1 Top 20. And, three new teams make their season debuts in the rankings.
There is no change at the immediate top, where BC High (4-1-1) and Pope Francis (3-1-1) continue to hold down the top two positions. The Eagles knocked off Xaverian (3-1) in their only action, while the Cardinals followed-up a tie with Arlington with an impressive 6-1 takedown of previously unbeaten Rhode Island #1 Bishop Hendricken (6-1).
BC High stays in the Catholic Conference this week seeing St. John’s Prep (Wednesday) and Malden Catholic (Saturday). Pope Francis has Framingham (Tuesday) and Franklin (Thursday) on its plate.
Upward movers this week include Austin Prep, Arlington, Catholic Memorial, St. Mary’s and Winchester.
Austin Prep (6-0-1) is up to #3 after downing Central Catholic (4-2) and Bishop Fenwick (4-0). A big one looms Wednesday with Archbishop Williams.
#4 Arlington (3-1-2) grabbed the tie with Pope Francis, and then beat Woburn (5-2). The Ponders have a big one this coming Saturday with Winchester.
Catholic Memorial (6-1-0) jumps up to #5 this week on the strength of wins over Top 20 teams Needham (5-1) and Xaverian (3-1). The Knights play just once this week, a Wednesday date with Malden Catholic.

Unbeaten Archbishop Williams (5-0-2) jumps in at #13 after a three-win week that culminated in a 6-1 conquest of St. John’s. The Bishops hope to continue the solid play against Austin Prep Wednesday.
#14 Framingham (6-1-1) was impressive in wins over Wellesley (2-0) and Braintree (4-2) and will look to battle Pope Francis tough Tuesday.
Also cracking the Top 20 this week is Duxbury (6-1-0) at #19. The Dragons have won six straight and have a huge tilt Monday with #6 Hingham (6-2-0).
