There wasn’t a whole lot of movement in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Division 2 boys hockey rankings, despite nearly every team suffering a blemish of some sort in the last seven days.

We say “almost” every team, because of course, Canton continues to roll along. The Bulldogs cruised past North Attleboro and Taunton to extend their unbeaten streak to 41 games and hold the No. 1 spot. Canton also earned one of 12 nods in the Mass. State Hockey Coaches Association’s “Watch List” for the Super Eight tournament.

As for the rest of the field? Most of the non-victories can be explained away easily, so there wasn’t much need to shake things up.

There was a tie between No. 3 Tewksbury and No. 5 North Andover. No. 2 Masconomet tied Div. 1 Newburyport. No. 4 Lincoln-Sudbury (St. John’s) and No. 6 Plymouth North (Duxbury) lost to solid Div. 1 teams.

North Andover and No. 8 Boston Latin both lost to higher-ranked L-S, as did No. 9 Triton vs. Masconomet, and No. 10 Whitman-Hanson vs. Plymouth North. If those teams are higher-ranked, they should win, right?

Norwood was one of the few teams to hold serve, and the Mustangs are up a spot to No. 7. Wakefield moves up three spots to No. 11 thanks to a win against Winchester and tie with Burlington.

The lone new entry is No. 14 Gloucester, fresh off clinching a tournament berth.

Tewksbury highlights the upcoming week schedule with ranked matchups at Boston Latin (Wednesday, 4, Murphy) and Lincoln-Sudbury (Saturday, 4, NE Sports Center). No. 12 Dedham also plays a pair of ranked teams, hosting Norwood on Wednesday (6:15) and Whitman-Hanson on Sunday (5:15) at Nobles.

Gloucester will put its new ranking on the line when it welcomes No. 13 Marblehead to “The Tank” on Wednesday at 6.

Meanwhile, Canton’s unbeaten season gets a tough test as the Bulldogs travel to Barnstable on Monday (5:40, Kennedy). Other key games include: Norwood at Hopkinton (Saturday, 1, NESC); Whitman-Hanson vs. Duxbury (Wednesday, 8, Rockland); and Wakefield at Wilmington (Saturday, 12, Ristuccia). No. 15 Scituate has a pair of tough Patriot League tests at Hanover (Wednesday, 6:10, Hobomock) and Duxbury (Saturday, 3:50, Bog).
