* In a battle of the top two teams in this week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 2 rankings, #2 Austin Prep fell behind 1-0 but rallied to knock #1 Braintree from the unbeaten ranks with a 2-1 win. Monique Lyons scored the game-winner late in the third period. Kara Cecchini also scored for the Cougars, while Abbey Holland had staked the Wamps, now 12-1-1, to an early 1-0 advantage.

* Natick picked up a big Division 2 win, rallying twice from two-goal deficits to outlast Algonquin/Hudson, 6-5. Nicole Schnair and Jacqui Poulack each had two goals for the Redhawks, and Caroline Gates and Abby Beigel scored once. Kerryn O’Connell had a pair of goals for the T-Hawks.

* D1 #8 Belmont rallied in the third period for a 4-2 win over pesky Burlington in the Middlesex League. Emma O’Donovan had two goals for the Marauders, who officially qualified for the post-season. Lily Duffy had the game-winner and Samantha Rocci also scored. Morgan Arrigo and Siena Berardinelli scored for the Red Devils.

Janice O’Neil

* Waltham senior Janice O’Neil reached the 100 career point plateau with a goal in the Hawks 5-0 win over Central Catholic. Isla MacPherson, Isabella Babstock, Julia Guden and Isabella Mondolfi also scored as Waltham improved to 7-2-5.

* Goals by Shea Kelleher, Christine Landry, Juliana Connors and Cam Bourassa powered Notre Dame to a 4-1 conquest of Falmouth in another key Division 2 tilt.

* Eighth-grader Madison Twombley scored four goals as Marblehead knocked off Medford, 5-2 in the Northeastern League. Molly O’Handley had the other goal for the winners.

Allie Martin

* Two goals apiece from Allie Martin and Allie McDonough led Norwood to a 4-2 win over Medway/Ashland in a non-league affair. Maggie Lester scored both goals for M/A.

* A hat trick from Maria Cantino and single goals from Victoria McLaughlin and Erin Doran led Pembroke to a 5-1 conquest of Marshfield.

* Lexi Yost scored twice, and Makayla Brightman and Jocelyn Silva one each in Bishop Stang’s 4-2 win over Old Rochester.

* In a key Central/West tussle, goals by Maddie Mrva and Olivia Cwalinski gave Shrewsbury a 2-1 win over St. Peter Marian. Emily Hamman had the lone goal for the Guardians.

* Maura McIver‘s hat trick keyed Sandwich’s 6-0 whitewashing of the Cape Cod Furies. Lily Tobin, Paige Hawkins and Kileigh Holt added single tallies for the Blue Knights.

* Two goals from Britt Nawrocki led Needham past Milton, 4-1, in the Bay State League. Caroline Han and Grace Kelley also scored for the Rockets.

* Emma Pereira had a hat trick in Mansfield/Oliver Ames/Foxboro’s 5-2 win over King Philip.
