A former sportswriter and news editor at the Woburn (MA) Daily Times Chronicle, he has been the HNIB News' key reporter for Mens Prep School hockey since 1988, as well as womens hockey, both at the prep school and high school levels. for almost 20 years. * Notre Dame Academy escaped with a 2-1 win over Natick, getting third period goals from Avery Engel and Jules Connors. Colleen Quirk had the lone goal for the Redhawks.

* Kat Yelsits had the overtime goal as HPNA rallied to take a 3-2 win over previously unbeaten Acton-Boxboro in the MVC/Dual County Large. Gabby Harty‘s third period goal sent the game to extra time. Kaitlyn Bush also scored for HPNA.

St. Mary’s

* Two goals from Maggie Pierce, including her 100th career point, led St. Mary’s to a 5-2 win over Bishop Stang. Gabbi Oakes, Amanda Forziati and Julia Lambert also had goals for the Spartans.

* Melrose picked up its first win of the season, downing Medford/Malden 3-1 behind two goals from Itia Figueira and one from Lucy Clark.

Makena Clark Sandwich

* In a key Cape & Islands battle, Sandwich took a 7-2 win over Falmouth as Makena Clark and Caroline Barrett each scored a pair of goals.

* Franklin and Medway/Ashland battled to a 3-3 standoff. Julia Flynn had all three goals for the Panthers. Jenna Fitzsimons had two goals and Maggie Lester one for Medway/Ashland.

* Quincy/North Quincy outslugged Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake 10-5 in a Patriot League encounter. Q/NQ got a four-goal performance from Maddie Bailey and hat tricks from Maggie Lynch and Orla ODriscoll.

* Amanda Leone had the game-winner midway through the third period in Marshfield’s 3-2 win over Hanover. Max Keeler and Maija Kastrud also had goals for the Rams, who overcame a 2-0 deficit.

* Andover blanked Billerica/Chelmsford, 3-0, with goals from Lauren Adams, Scarlet Glass and Rose MacLean.

Gabbie Russo Arlington

* Gabbie Russo had a pair of goals and Devin Norman added one in Arlington’s 3-0 shutout win over Reading.

* Norwood won its sixth straight game, as goals from Jenna Naumann, Morgan Roach and Caeli Reed led the Mustangs to a 3-0 win over Dedham.

Jen Birolini Pembroke

* Pembroke doubled up Hingham, 4-2 as Jen Bironlini and Mary Quatrale each fired home a pair of goals.

* Bishop Feehan slipped past Bishop Fenwick in Catholic Central League play as Grace Nelson had two goals and Caitlin Kelly one. Skylar Dempsey and Lauren Diranian scored for the Crusaders.

Kiera Modder Scituate

* Scituate stunned Malden Catholic in the opening round of the Nan Rheault Tournament on the Vineyard, as two goals from Audrey Martin, and one each from Kiera Modder, Haley McCarthy and Bridget Thompson gave the Sailors a 5-4 overtime win. Scituate fell 3-1 in the finals against host Martha’s Vineyard.

Sage Smith Masconomet

* Maddie Kenney, Charlotte Leiss and Sage Smith each contributed a goal and assist in Masconomet’s 3-2 win over Shawsheen/Bedford.

* Newburyport got past Marblehead 3-1 in Northeastern Hockey League play. Emma Gabriel, Holly Sullivan and Grace Kelleher each had a goal for the winners.

Brynn McPherson Matignon

* Matignon shut out St. Joseph Prep/Mt. Alvernia 3-0 as Brynn McPherson, Kyleigh Green and Mae Lafferty lit the lamp.

* Two goals from Mikayla Matthew and one from Cassie Donovan propelled Medfield to a 3-2 win over Wellesley.

* Central Catholic got goals from Maddie Terry and Kailin Sullivan and slipped past Cambridge/Somerville, 2-0.
