A former sportswriter and news editor at the Woburn (MA) Daily Times Chronicle, he has been the HNIB News' key reporter for Mens Prep School hockey since 1988, as well as womens hockey, both at the prep school and high school levels. for almost 20 years. DUXBURY (14-1-1)

Coach: Dan Najarian

MIAA Division: 2

With a host of seasoned forwards back in the fold, the key for the Dragon will be the play of a young defense.

Ayla Abban

In two seasons, junior Ayla Abban (23 goals) has established herself as one of the state’s premier forwards. She is supplemented by seniors Katie Geis, Grace Landolfi and Ava Rabeni, junior Lily Sparrow, and sophomore Reese Porter. Add to the mix a trio of freshmen in Madeleine Greenwood, Meghan Carney and Zoey Madigan.

Strong defensive play will be needed from the returning junior trio of McKenna Colella, Flynn Bridgett and Lily McGoldrick. Freshman Sami Norton looks to crack the lineup.

Sophomore Anna McGinty is coming off a tremendous season in the Duxbury net, one that saw her furnish nine shutouts.

Ryan Maguire Hingham

HINGHAM (9-5-1)

Coach: Tom Findley

MIAA Division: 1

Coach Findley expects his squad to be competitive right out of the shoot, but one that should get better as the season progresses, as the younger players need to get adjusted to high school hockey.

Senior Ryan Maguire returns and will be an offensive leader for the Harborwomen, as will junior Piper Jordan and sophomore Reese Pompeo. Also back are senior veterans Lily Thrun and Meg Moynihan, juniors Abby Kennedy and Caroline Doherty, and sophomore Isabel McCabe.

On defense, senior Lilly Steiner, junior Erin Packard and junior Breanna Moynihan will hold down the fort in front of goalies Mary Maffei and Brynn Scott.

Two newcomers looking to contribute are Addison Garrity and Cassidy McCabe.

Josie Keeler Marshfield


Coach: Liz Cohen

MIAA Division: 2

With as many as 11 freshmen and an eighth-grader that could be on the roster, it is safe to say that the Rams will be young. But, expect them to be enthusiastic and have lots of energy.

Junior Josie Keeler (15 pts) was a Patriot League All Star at forward, where senior Hannah Cochran and junior Amanda Leone should have big roles.

Juniors Majia Kastrud and Heather DeGust will be cornerstones on defense. A new starting goalie will emerge from pre-season workouts.


Coach: Kevin Marani

MIAA Division: 1

A good mix of returners and freshman newcomers will be what propels WH/SL to success. Coach Marani feels this group will challenger for a spot in the post-season.

Scoring will come from returning junior Shea Kelleher, and seniors Abby Powers and Lily Ulvila. Joining the forward group are freshman Chloe Duff and Brook Hohmann.

On the blue line, junior Kendyl Peterson and sophomore Caitlin Dilley are defensive cornerstones.

With both varsity goaltenders having graduated, it will give eighth-grader Sadie Watchorn a chance to show what she can do.

NORWELL (2-6-3)

Coach: Victoria Dinger

MIAA Division: 2

Former assitant coach Dinger ascends to the head coaching job. She says the focus this year is for strong chemistry to help the team prepare and perform competitively.

A veteran braintrust at forward consists of senior Maddy Hohmann and junoirs Maddie McDonald and Madeline Lievi. Three freshmen to keep an eye on are Lainey Burns, Caroline Burtch and Penelope Saich.

Defensively seniors Lauren Bedford and Lizzy Carnes, and junior Margaret Lievi are all back. New senior Jane Smith is expected to have an immediate impact.

Returning junior Nicole Prescott and new sophomore Vialetta Babicheva will handle the goaltending.


Jen Birolini Pembroke

PEMBROKE (13-2-0)

Coach: Bill Flynn

MIAA Division: 2

The Titans are coming off a great season. The lost to Duxbury in their first and last games of the season, but won all in between. All but two players return for coach Flynn.

Maria Cantnio Pembroke

That includes top scorers like freshman Jen Birolini (26 pts), seniors Megan Dorsey (18 pts) and Erin Doran (18 pts), and sophomore Maria Cantino (15 pts).

Senior Ali Zeoli headlines the Titans’ blue line crew, with returning sophomores Ava Dunphy and Lexi Lewis. Both goalies return in the senior duo of Ali Stone and Kaleigh Murphy.

A group of new players to the lineup will include junior Elizabeth Gallagher, sophomore Allie Woods and freshmen Elizabeth Burke and Meghan Hanrahan.

HANOVER (4-9-2)

Coach: Pam Manning

MIAA Division: 2

After several solid years in a co-op program with Cohasset, the Hawks enter this their first year as as stand-alone varsity. The team will be young, with just one senior.

The forward lines are well-stocked with returning players, as senior captain Nora Jenkins, junior captains Cailyn McCarthy and Meredith DeCoste, and sophomores Erin Condon, Eva Kelliher, Caitlin Fortuna, Kaleigh Carthas, Katie Radzik, Maura Canny and Katelyn Farrell all return.

Junior Sarah Long will be a key blueliner for coach Manning. Three sophomores – Mae Buchanan, Ayla McDermod and Maren Hines – return as well. Junior Samantha Burke and Grace Monahan, one of five freshmen who could see time, are the team’s goaltenders.

Orla O’Driscoll Quincy/NQ


Coach: Jeff Craig

MIAA Division: 1

With basicially the whole roster back, Q/NQ will be a team to watch this winter.

A prolific offense will be led by junior Maggie Lynch (38 goals last year) and senior Orla O’Driscoll (109 career pts). Senior captain Maddie Bailey is another key contributor. A pair freshmen – Emily Lim and Ciara Folan – will bolster the attack.

Junior Maggie Dineen is the go-to skater on defense. Freshman Ashlinn Folan will be a welcome addition.

In the nets, junior Hailey Concannon will get the call.

Jen Diercks Plymouth

PLYMOUTH (5-7-1)

Coach: Mike McCosh

MIAA Division: 1

The focus is simple for Plymouth: Play tough defense and the wins will come.

Forward leadership will come from senior Grace Tomasello, juniors Maeve Campbell and Jen Diercks, and sophomore Molly Roy.

Hayley McCarthy Scituate

Senior Anastacia Gosselin and sophomore Megan Petrarca are a pair of capable blueliners, while senior Aubrey Organ looks to take over between the pipes.

Kiera Modder Scituate

SCITUATE (2-7-1)

Coach: Michael Shanley

MIAA Division: 2

New coach Shanley is the team’s third head coach in four seasons and is ready to provide the program with stability and change the culture going forward.

Two key players for the Sailors project to be senior forwards Kiera Modder and Hayley McCarthy.
