Gary Demopoulos has been covering prep school hockey for the HNIB News for over 30 years, and has been the editor of the HNIB News since 2005. A former sportswriter and news editor at the Woburn (MA) Daily Times Chronicle, he has been the HNIB News' key reporter for Mens Prep School hockey since 1988, as well as womens hockey, both at the prep school and high school levels. for almost 20 years. Gary also helps organize and oversee HNIB's many summer tournaments and festivals for scholastic players.

Girls Division 1 team await the 2023 MIAA tournament pairings which are expected to be announced Saturday morning. It should be an interesting tournament.

St. Mary’s (21-1-0) started the season ranked #1 in the HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10, and finishes the regular season in the same spot. The Spartans should draw the top seed in the tournament.

#2 Winthrop (18-0-0) made it two straight unbeaten regular seasons and will be one the favorites. The Vikings hope to go further than last year, when they were ousted by eventual state champ Austin Prep in the Round of 16.

#3 Notre Dame Academy (14-6-0) will also be a force. Four of the Cougars six losses have come to St. Mary’s and D2 #1 Duxbury. They will have one of the deeper lineups in the post-season.

MVC/Dual County Large co-champ #4 Shrewsbury (16-2-2) can’t be overlooked. the Colonials concluded their regular season with a Newburyport Bank Classic title.

HPNA (12-6-2) finishes the regular season at #5 after a 2-0 win over #6 Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading (16-4-0). Both will be tough outs in the post-season.
