When the time came in the pre-season to pick a pre-season favorite in the newly-aligned Division 1 girls field, there was a consensus that Austin Prep would be that team.

The Cougars did not disappoint. They capped a dominant and perfect 27-0-0 season by taking the MIAA Division 1 state championship, beating second-seeded Arlington 4-1 in the program’s final game in the MIAA (Next season the Austin Prep sports programs will join the NEPSAC ranks).

#2 Arlington (22-2-1) matched Austin toe-to-toe for the majority of that state final and all things considered had a spectacular season.

#3 Acton-Boxboro (18-5-3) reached the semifinal round after grabbing a MVC/Dual County Large co-championship, and hung with Austin Prep (1-1 into the third period) for a good portion of that semifinal tilt.

#4 Shrewsbury (16-7-1) was impressive as well, winning three post-season games until falling 2-1 to Arlington in the semfinals

Notre Dame Academy (12-6-4) finishes at #5. The Cougars’ season ended with a quarterfinal loss to Shrewsbury.

Six of #6 St. Mary’s (14-8-3) losses came to team’s in the final top five. Another came to D2 heavyweight Duxbury.

Rounding out the HNIB News final Massachusetts Girls D1 Top 10 are #7 Winthrop (18-1-1), #8 Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading (16-5-1), #9 HPNA (12-9-2) and #10 Bishop Feehan (13-7-3).
