Massachusetts Girls Division 2 hockey continues to be highly competitive, with several teams not in this week’s HNIB News Top 10 that very well could make a case that they belong. It will make for a great last month of the regular season.
#1 Duxbury (10-0-2) blanked Marshfield and Norwell this week and look ahead to Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake on Monday and Hingham on Saturday. They have outscored opponents by a 51-9 margin so far this season.
Despite its first loss to D1 power Arlington, Winchester (8-1-0) climbs to #2. The Red & Black did beat Wakefield (9-0) and Melrose (9-0) and has Watertown (Monday) and Reading (Saturday) this week.
#3 Sandwich (9-1-0) saw its perfect season end Sunday in a 2-0 loss to Canton, after the Lady Knights polished off Plymouth, Nantucket and Old Rochester. Three more games are on the docket this week with Cape Cod Furies (Wednesday), Notre Dame (Friday) and Dennis-Yarmouth (Saturday).
#4 Woburn (6-2-1) is also up a few rungs. After a loss to Winchester, the Tanners have put up three straight shutout wins. They get Lexington (Monday), Burlington (Wednesday) and Arlington (Saturday) this week.
Needham (6-1-3) is also on the move up to #5. The Rockets blanked Auburn (5-0) and tied up Natick (2-2) this week and will face Framingham (Wednesday).
#6 Algonquin/Hudson (9-1-2) lost for the first time on Saturday, a 2-0 defeat to Longmeadow. The T-Hawks, who did have a win over Wellesley, are off until a Saturday date with Matignon.
#7 Braintree (8-2-1) had a nice week, beating Natick (in OT) and Brookline. The Wamps look ahead to Newton North (Wednesday) before a return engagement with Natick (Saturday).
Norwood (10-0-0) is up to #8 after weekend wins over Franklin (4-1) and Westwood (1-0). The Mustangs can’t overlook Medway/Ashland on Wednesday.
#9 Andover (5-3-1) drops a bit after a Saturday loss to HPNA. The Warriors are on the road this week against Westford Academy (Wednesday) and Methuen/Tewksbury (Saturday).
Natick (4-5-2) checks in at #10. The Redhawks did go 0-2-1 this week, but gave D1 #1 Austin Prep a battle in a 3-1 loss. Prior to Braintree, they get Wellesley (Monday) and Weymouth (Wednesday).
