The ever-changing schedules of teams in Massachusetts Girls Division 2 hockey, and throughout the state for that matter, can be evident in this latest HNIB News Girls Division 2 Top 10.
Some teams have played as many as 5-6 games already on the young season, others just one before their season was halted, or got a late start, for safety protocols.
Canton (4-0-0) moves into the top spot, picking up where it left off last year, outscoring its opponents 27-3 to date. The Bulldogs next scheduled two-game set is an interesting one, Monday and Wednesday against #10 King Philip.
Another team that has exploded out of the gates is #2 Matignon (5-0-0), included a solid opening night win over D1 St. Mary’s. Freshman Lizzie Greeley has sparked the Warriors offense.
#3 Notre Dame Academy (1-0-0) is one such team forced to put on the brakes, after an impressive 6-0 win over D1 Hingham in the Cougars’ only action to date.
#4 Falmouth (1-0-0) finally got into game action this past Saturday, and posted an impressive 4-1 win over Cape & Island rival #5 Sandwich (1-1-0) behind a hat trick from Ryann McDonald. The Clippers will look forward to games with Dennis-Yarmouth (Wednesday) and Martha’s Vineyard (Saturday). Sandwich has scheduled Old Rochester (Monday), Nantucket (Wednesday) and Old Rochester again on Saturday.
Natick (1-0-0) jumps to #6. The Redhawks had an impressive opening win over #9 Wellesley by a 5-0 score, and both teams have unfortunately not played since. Hoping both clubs can get back into the swing of things soon.
#7 Westwood (2-0) posted wins over Dover-Sherborn/Hopkinton (3-1) and Norwood (8-5) and has a home-and-home series upcoming this week with Medfield/Norton (Wednesday and Saturday).
#8 Algonquin (3-0-0) is off to a roaring start, led by senior Kerryn O’Connell who has 10 goals already in those three games. The T-Hawks are scheduled to play Oakmont (Wednesday) and Pope Francis (Saturday).
#10 King Philip had a solid 5-1 win over Franklin on Saturday and looks to keep that momentum going against Canton.
Teams to Watch: Bishop Fenwick, Medfield/Norton, Dedham
