Mass. Girls D1 Top 10
This week’s HNIB News Massachusetts Girls Division 1 Top 10 is pretty much a carbon copy of last week’s edition. With the handful of teams that have been on pause in their schedules expected back in action, it should be a busy week ahead.
#1 Austin Prep (6-0-1) got a late goal to edge rival and #3 St. Mary’s 2-1 and then downed Bishop Fenwick 3-0 in a Sunday morning matinee. The Cougars are expected to face St. Mary’s for a third time on Wednesday and then get unbeaten D2 Matignon on Saturday. An interesting week.
#2 Arlington (4-0-1) was idle. The Spy Ponders hope to return to action Wednesday against Reading.
In contrast, St. Mary’s (7-2-1) was busy this past week, following the loss to AP with wins over Bishop Stang, Shawsheen and Malden Catholic. They remain busy, also having Norwell (2/4) and Bishop Fenwick (2/6) on the docket.
#5 Needham (3-0-0) has been off for some time. The Rockets are scheduled to face Milton twice this week (Wednesday and Saturday).
#6 Duxbury (9-1-1) has been able to play 11 games so far. The Dragons sandwiched a loss to Notre Dame with a pair of wins over Marshfield. They get another crack at Notre Dame on Wednesday.
Despite being off for the week, Billerica/Chelmsford (4-1-0) slides up a spot to #7. B/C has a big game scheduled for Monday against #8 Andover (5-1-1), although weather could be a factor. They then face Central Catholic (Wednesday) and Methuen/Tewskbury (Saturday).
Andover did fall to Methuen/Tewskbury (2-0) and were deadlocked by HPNA (3-3) on Sunday. Central Catholic is on tap for Saturday.
#9 Waltham (3-0-0) is hoping to return to action Thursday against Boston Latin.
#10 Lincoln-Sudbury (6-0-2) had a bizarre week, rallying from a three-goal deficit to down Acton-Boxboro (6-3), then losing a three-goal lead in a 3-3 standoff with the Colonials. The two teams continue their battles this week.
TEAMS TO WATCH: Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading, Acton-Boxboro, Belmont
